Director, Data Science - AI Research

Position SummaryWhat you'll do The Retail Intelligence team is leading the AI strategy for the company and is specifically charged with intercepting, redesigning, and reframing our end-to-end systems to accelerate customer retention and spend while improving our associates' productivity and turnover.
We will reframe business challenges into ML problems, rapidly prototype new algorithms in a toy-scale garage setting, iterate to acceptance with the business, design and execute experiments to test for viability of our models, and work with Tech to productionalize and scale the end-state solution.
What you'll do :
The AI Engineering group develops algorithms across entire end-to-end customer flow - from merchandising to supply chain.
The work includes solving problems such as geo demand forecasting, inventory placement, middle mile network flow optimization, last mile delivery and returns design, transportation and monetization strategies to provide Walmart a competitive edge in the medium to long term.
We primarily employ various techniques from operations research to classical machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, causal inference and statistics.
Our work is innovative and is published in top tier conferences and journals.
What you'll bring :

in a quantitative discipline such as Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics , with 10
years of relevant work experience, People management experience of 6
years preferred.
Be able to leverage your thesis in Operations Research or Statistics or an equivalent quantitative field involving math programming techniques, stochastic programming, statistical and/or machine learning methods Experience with one or more of optimization toolkits/libraries like CPlex, Gurobi, XPressMP or open-source solvers.
Strong software development skills in languages such as Python and familiarity with machine learning libraries such as Scikit, Tensorflow, Pytorch, Keras.
Data querying ability using Sql.
Ability to communicate your results to both technical and non-technical audiences alike.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
